Cheap Dishwashers: Keeping Dishes Clean on a Budget

September 16th, 2010 by

It wasn’t very long ago that nearly everybody just washed their dishes by hand in the kitchen sink. After all, having a dishwasher used to be such a luxury that only the wealthiest homes had one. It is also fair to say that the vast majority of the kitchens in the world still don’t have a dishwasher, but that is definitely not the case in many western countries. People in the USA and other wealthy countries have grown up using things like dishwashers, and many people can’t stand washing them by hand. The good news is that pretty much everyone can afford a dishwasher these days, and here are the best cheap dishwasher models that are easy on your wallet.

The least expensive type of these appliances is definitely the tabletop dishwasher. Unlike the large kind that fit snugly in place between the kitchen cabinets, this model is more mobile, and can just sit either right on the counter or on a kitchen cart with wheels. With prices starting at under $200 for some models, they are definitely an inexpensive solution to your dishwashing troubles. The downside to them is that they don’t hold all that much, and you will have another large appliance on your counter taking up space. These models usually hold between 4 and 6 place settings, which is enough for small households, but definitely not a large family. In addition, they have to be hooked up to the kitchen sink for water intake and drainage.

If you are willing to part with around $350, you can actually get yourself a full sized dishwasher for your kitchen. This isn’t a lot more than the counter-top models, and they are a lot more convenient since you can slowly fill them up with lots of items and then run them. Many people choose the tabletop variety because they simply don’t have room for a large unit, but if you do, I would definitely opt for a large dishwasher, even if you have to buy a used one on craigslist.
