If you live on your own then you may be interested in buying a single serving rice cooker. But what exactly is this? Are there rice cookers that are only big enough to cook one serving of rice. The answer to this question is no. So there are no dedicated single serving rice cookers available for purchase anywhere. But this does not mean that you cannot find a rice cooker that is capable of cooking only one serving.
What you can do is buy one of the smallest rice cookers and use this to make just a tiny serving of rice if you want. The smallest size you can buy is a 3 cup rice cooker. There are lots of different brands that manufacture these machines. You can get Japanese brands like Zojirushi, Sanyo and Panasonic as well as plenty of Western brand such as Rival, Black & Decker, Aroma and so on. The best 3 cup rice cooker that is on sale in North America is the Zojirushi NP-GBC05. It can be quite difficult to choose a rice cooker so you have to know what you should be looking for. If you are interested in single servings of rice then a small 3 cup machine is your best bet.
It is actually un-necessary to cook such small quantities of rice. A single serving is between 1/2 and 3/4 of a cup of un-cooked white rice. Brown rice is a bit less, about 1/2 a cup is enough. But rather than making just one serving when you need it. How about making a couple of cups and saving the rice you do not eat for a future date. As long as you have a freezer, this might be the best idea. All you have to do is divide the un-eaten rice up and put it in plastic containers or wrap it up with Glad Wrap. Then you can freeze it and the rice will stay fresh for a few months. Then when you want to eat it all you have to do is put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes and you are good to go.
This is possibly the best way to be able to quickly prepare a single serving of rice.
