The Green Star GS-1000 is a twin gear juicing appliance. What this means is that it has two gears that are positioned very close together and rotate in opposite directions. So when fresh fruit and vegetables are fed into the machine, they are ground up between the gears and the juice is extracted. If you buy a Green Star GS-1000 you are getting a top of the range juicing appliance. Be warned though, this fruit and vegetable juicer is not cheap. It actually costs over $400 to get one. And did you know, this is actually the bottom of the range model!

Green Star juicers are made by Tribest. This is a company that specialize in making top of the range health products for use in the kitchen. There are many reasons why the GS-1000 is so expensive. For example unlike centrifugal juicers this twin gear juicer operates at much slower speeds. The gears turn at 110 RPM. Typically, centrifugal juicers spin at 1000s of RPMs. The difference this makes are many. For a start, using a centrifugal juicer is actually faster to turn your solid produce into a delicious drink. But this comes at a price. Your juice will be heated up a few degrees. This promotes oxidation and a loss of nutrients. Also, the high speeds also force air into the liquid which can cause a froth to appear on the surface.

The Green Star GS-1000 on the other hand operates at much slower speeds. Therefore there is less of a heat increase and also the problem of froth on top of your juice is less. So it is really a question of convenience against quality. For example, if you buy a Breville BJE200XL juicer you get a machine that is really easy to assemble and quick to clean up after use. Twin gear juicers take longer to put together and clean up as well. But the benefit is that you are able to make a better quality juice.
