The Champion juicer has been around for over fifty years. The family owned company Plastaket started making them in 1955. This company is based in California. So buying a Champion is supporting U.S. manufacture. There are two different models that are currently produced. They are the G5-NG853S and G5-PG710. These are simply the model numbers. The difference between these two units is that the first one is designed for home use while the second for use in a commercial setting, such as a juice bar, cafe, or restaurant. There are not too many differences between the two. The commercial machine is a bit heavier and has a slightly more powerful motor. It also costs a bit more. You may think this would be worth having at home but unless you are going to be running your juicer for hours on end, there really is no need to get the more expensive machine.
Masticating juicers are thought to be able to create juices that are a bit more nutritious than centrifugal style juicers. The juices are a bit thicker and have a richer color. Does this mean that more is being squeezed out of the fruits and vegetables that you use? Perhaps.
The cost of a Champion juicer is quite reasonable. You should be able to find them for under $250. This is about the same sort of price as higher end centrifugal machines. So you would have to think about whether you want the convenience of a centrifugal juicer or the extra juicing capacity of a masticating machine. The Champion 2000+ can do much more than just juice. It can also be used for wheat grass extraction; you can make frozen desserts; prepare baby foods; and even extrude pasta with it. So in this respect, it is a more versatile kitchen appliance than a masticating juicer.
